That Puddle Flange Blog Post
I learnt something interesting about puddle flanges, as my lovely friend who’s considering a bathroom reno pointed out “Who’s ever heard of a puddle flange?” This is a discussion we have had over a cold beer at the end of Brad’s busy day and I’m going to share!!
Don’t sigh and say how boring LOL, as its an important procedure to prevent a leaking shower in the future when renovating your bathroom.
The following diagram shows the correct installation procedure recommended by the manufacturer.
The correct procedure is to rebate the slab to suit the flange, if its not set up correctly and is installed over the top of the slab (blocking/slowing the water flow), a capillary reaction occurs and pushes the water in the opposite direction back toward the walls.
When we rip out old bathrooms that have leaking issues 90% percent of the time an incorrectly installed puddle flange is the culprit!
Hope you enjoyed today’s lesson in bathroom renovating and find it as interesting as I do! HAHA
